Gym helps Athawes & Son muscle up with £4.1m result

The firm raised £4.1m, selling 15 lots out of a possible 22, giving a 69% success rate.

It was only the fourth time in the past two years that Athawes has raised more than £4m. It holds sales every two to three months and its previous sale, on 26 July, generated a much smaller £441,000.

The highest price at the October auction was for a £665,000 vacant gym with a car park and potential for residential development in Isleworth, Middlesex. It generates £3,600 pa.

A vacant house in Perivale, Middlesex, with permission for a double-storey side extension and potential for conversion into five self-contained flats, sold for £632,000.

A vacant doctor’s surgery in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire – a single storey, 345 sq ft  building with a separate toilet – sold for £48,000. The virtual freehold property had previously been rented out at £6,000 pa.

The sale also featured a vacant four-bedroom house in Boulogne-Sur-Mer, northern France, which sold for £31,500.

The auction took place on 13 October at the Grand Connaught Rooms, W1.
