Nearly one in seven social homes in England does not meet the national decent homes standard, according to analysis by The Independent.
Some 244,000 of the 525,000 homes failing to meet the standard have a category one safety hazard – the highest level.
Some 364,000 social homes are viewed as being in a substantial state of disrepair.
