Half of new home buyers report serious problems

Just over half the people buying a newly built home reported serious problems with the property, according to a YouGov survey for housing charity Shelter.

The survey found that 41% of those surveyed disagreed with the statement “I would prefer to live in a new home rather than an older one,” while 45% disagreed with the statement “new homes are built to a higher standard than older homes.”

The results of the survey were published along with a report by Shelter entitled New Civic Housebuilding, in which the charity called for a return to good-quality, affordable homes.
