Brunel joins Hammerson board

Hammerson has appointed Méka Brunel, chief executive of Paris-based REIT Gecina, as a non-executive director and member of its investment and disposal committee.

Brunel, who will also sit on the nomination committee, will begin her role on 1 December.

Gecina, which is listed on Euronext, comprises a circa €19.9bn (£16.9bn) portfolio of French office and residential assets.

Brunel joined the firm in 2003 as executive director of strategic development. In 2006, she was appointed chief executive of office REIT Eurosic, a role she held for three years, before becoming European president of Ivanhoé Cambridge in 2009.

She returned to Gecina in 2014, joining the board as a non-executive director before being appointed as its chief executive in 2017.

David Tyler, chair of the board at Hammerson, said the REIT would benefit from Brunel’s “experience and skills in property outside of retail” as it seeks to expand its City Quarters concept.

The appointment comes after Hammerson said it would hire two independent directors earlier this year, following discussions with shareholder Elliott Advisors. In July, it appointed Adam Metz, former managing director and head of international real estate at Carlyle Group, to a similar role.
