Hammerson denies bid rumours after stock hike

Hammerson has denied rumours of a takeover bid after the company posted the biggest gain for a bluechip stock on Friday.

A spokesperson for the property company said they have not received any offer.

Friday saw 4.3m Hammerson shares change hands leading to a rise of 34p to an all-time high of £13.35, compared to the usual daily volume of closer to 1.6m shares.

Hammerson has ascribed the rise to an analysts visit to Paris last week.

The property company, which is listed on the LSE and Euronext Paris, took a group of 50 UK analysts and investors to look at its investments in the French capital.

Although the group were not given any information that is not available to the public, the resulting surge in stock has been attributed to the trip.

Hammerson which has a portfolio of around 12m sq ft of retail space and 2.6m sq ft of offices in the UK, France and Germany.
