Hammerson donates grassland to wildlife trust
Hammerson has gifted a five-acre area of grassland to the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
The meadow is next to Suffolk’s Gunton Meadow Nature Reserve, and will allow the trust to expand its stewardship.
Simon Travis, Hammerson’s group investment director, said: “The donation of this important grassland will enable the wildlife trust to monitor threatened species native to the area and support vital ecosystems.”

The environmental targets outlined in Hammerson’s 2022 ESG report, which details its biodiversity net gain plan, also address broader sustainability challenges, resulting to date in a 12% reduction in group carbon emissions, significant reduction in water use, and nearly £3m invested directly in group social value initiatives.
The government this week came under fire for delaying the legislative framework for a mandatory 10% biodiversity net gain across the UK.
Steve Aylward, head of project development for the wildlife trust, said: “Bringing this vitally important area of natural habitat into the ownership of the trust will safeguard its future and enable the local community to enjoy the remarkable wildlife that lives on their doorstep.”
