Hammerson finance boss to step down

Hammerson’s chief financial officer is preparing to leave the company little more than a year after joining.

James Lenton will remain in the post until his successor is in place, with a search already under way.

Lenton, formerly the CFO of insurance group AIG, took the role in October 2019. At the time Hammerson welcomed his “extensive experience in financing, rigorous capital allocation and business transformation”.

Since then Lenton has helped to lead on several initiatives intended to shore up Hammerson’s balance sheet and turn around the REIT’s fortunes.

As Hammerson announced his resignation, Lenton said: “Following successful completion of the rights issue, VIA Outlets disposal  and induction of the new chair of the board and CEO, I feel now is the right time to look for a new opportunity. I remain fully committed in the role until my successor is in place.”

Chief executive Rita-Rose Gagné said: “James was instrumental in navigating and conducting the rights issue and VIA Outlets disposal. I am grateful for his support and commitment to continue until his successor joins. We wish him well for the future.”
