The centre includes 120 shops, three department stores, 15 restaurants and cafes and a 12-screen Cinema de Lux.

Over three quarters of Highcross’ retailers are new to the city and include Hugo Boss, Reiss, Ghost, Apple and Guess.

David Atkins, managing director, Hammerson, said: “With 25,000 people visiting Highcross Leicester in the first two hours of trading, it seems clear that this scheme is set to transform the city. The combination of iconic architecture, great shopping and exciting leisure creates an irresistible draw for consumers.

“In spite of consumers recently taking a more cautious approach to spending, sales in the first few hours seem to demonstrate that an exciting retail experience will still prompt customers to take out their wallets.”

Cushman & Wakefield and DTZ advised the developers.
