Retail giant Hammerson has submitted a planning application for the conversion of the former Debenhams in Leicester into a build-to-rent scheme.
The plans follow an application for a scoping request from partners Hammerson and Packaged Living earlier this year for a 15-storey scheme of up to 350 flats at the flagship Highcross shopping centre.
The new proposals designed by CRTKL will provide more than 300 flats, with public realm and a roof garden.
Mark Bourgeois, managing director UK and Ireland at Hammerson, said: “While the structural shift in retail and changing consumer shopping habits have meant that destinations such as Highcross need to adapt their offer and mix of uses, well-connected city centre locations such as this will always be places where people want to be.”
