Solicitor Hammond Suddards could provide a boost for the oversupplied Manchester office market with a possible requirement for as much as 3,716 sq m (40,000 sq ft).
According to Knight Frank’s Robert Shaw, who advises Hammond, the law firm has looked at several schemes in central Manchester already. There is a break in the lease on the company’s existing offices at Trinity Court, John Dalton Street, in September 1999.
Market sources have suggested Hammond would consider signing a pre-let on a new scheme. However, Shaw stressed the search is at an early stage.
The possible requirement is good news for the city’s office market, currently suffering from oversupply. At the moment there are three large empty buildings in Manchester: 82 King Street, 17 York Street and The Chancery at Spring Gardens. Amec’s 5,110 sq m (55,000 sq ft) The Observatory will also be coming to the market this summer.
