Harveys Furnishing is planning to install mezzanine floors in another 80 branches.
This will add another 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) of sales space for no increase in costs. It has installed mezzanine floors in 48 out-of-town stores so far. It added 21 in the last 12 months.
The company warned the rising cost of occupying buildings as rents as rates rose was the biggest single threat to retailers.
