Haslemere to build spec offices in central Leeds

Central Leeds is to get a fresh supply of much-needed speculative offices at Haslemere Estates’ 1 Park Lane scheme.

Haslemere has decided to start building 6,781 sq m (73,000 sq ft) of offices on the site following an unsuccessful preletting campaign.

Clive Betts, of Knight Frank, sole agent for the scheme, said: “Because of a couple of false starts our client will go on to spec this themselves. Although it’s not in the traditional pitch, this is a high-profile site which will have a stunning new building on it.”

If work begins on schedule in September it will steal a march on the second phase of Miller Gregory’s Whitehall office scheme, which was due to provide the next tranche of space in the area.

A local source commented: “This decision will raise a few eyebrows, but if Haslemere is brave enough to do this, they may make some money. Conditions are right for spec development in Leeds.”

The scheme has detailed consent. Completion is due by the end of 2001.
