Hearthstone joins Future Homes Hub in net zero drive

Hearthstone Investments has joined the Future Homes Hub, an independent organisation that facilitates collaboration on climate and environmental goals in the new homes sector.

Hearthstone Investments manages capital on behalf of the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as other institutional investors, and oversees an income generating portfolio of more than 1,800 homes across the UK.

It works with housebuilders on the transition to net zero. Homes managed by Hearthstone Investments emit an average 1.2 tonnes of CO2 annually, significantly below the national average of 6 tonnes.

The Future Homes Hub brings together the homebuilding sector and the wider supply chain, infrastructure, finance, investment and government organisations to deliver the government’s legally binding net zero and wider environmental targets.

Helen Simons, investment director at Hearthstone Investments said: “In the decade since Hearthstone Investments started building portfolios of new homes on behalf of institutional investors, housebuilding standards have already promoted greater energy efficiency. However, a step-change is required to achieve net zero and membership of the Future Homes Hub allows us to collaborate even more effectively with the sector.”

Richard Lankshear, programme director at Future Homes Hub, added: “It is important that our members represent a cross-section of the sector, and it will be invaluable having Hearthstone Investments on board.”
