Heijmans scoops Amsterdam project

The municipality of Amsterdam has given listed Dutch developer Heijmans the go-ahead to take over the €155m second phase of the Centrum Amsterdam Noord (CAN) development from ING Real Estate Development.

Heijmans has also reached agreement in principle with fund manager Syntrus Achmea concerning the development. Heijmans said in a statement that the deal makes it, along with Syntrus Achmea and the Ymere housing association, a partner in one of the most important developments in Amsterdam.

Heijmans will carry out the development under the name Proper-Stok.

Known as the CAN Boven ‘t Y phase, the project will provide 220 flats and about 23,000 m2 of retailing. Syntrus Achmea will become the investor and co-developer for the commercial areas and will acquire 150 of the flats and Ymere housing association will acquire the remainder.

Construction is expected to start at the beginning of 2014, although this depends on the final agreement with Syntrus Achmea.
