Hammersmith residents and businesses have vowed to keep fighting the council’s recommendation for a £110m makeover of the Town Hall area.
Hammersmith & Fulham council said it would recommend a scheme by King Street Developments – a joint venture between Helical Bar and Grainger – to redevelop the land surrounding the Town Hall building.
A decision on planning permission, which the council hopes to approve, will be decided at a meeting on 30 November.
Initial proposals submitted in March 2010 were rejected after 700 objection letters were lodged. The latest plans include knocking down three buildings on the King Street site, replacing them with four mixed-use blocks, ranging from nine to 15 storeys, comprising 290 flats, shops and offices. A 21,527 sq ft supermarket is also planned.
Campaign group Save Our Skyline claims to have collected over 140 letters objecting to the current proposals. It has now contacted members and the public, calling for them to attend the council meeting.
“A packed hall will show the council that they are under the spotlight, and indicate the importance and sensitivity of the project to the Greater London Authority and the Secretary of State,” a campaign spokesman said.
The council has argued that it has compromised by accepting a smaller headquarters in the revised plans.
