HelioSlough begins Radlett appeal

HelioSlough has today begun its high court appeal against the secretary of state for Communities and Local Goverment’s decision to refuse permission for its £250m Strategic Rail Freight Interchange on the site of the former Radlett Aerodrome in Hertfordshire.

The industrial developer is challenging Eric Pickles’ decision last summer to uphold St Albans council’s rejection of the 3.5m sq ft scheme.

HelioSlough claims that while the inspector recommended its appeal be upheld, the secretary of state dismissed it on the grounds that a smaller proposal could be developed at Colnbrook near Slough. It says Pickles had not adequately addressed the strategic gap designation that covers the Colnbrook site and that the position of Slough borough bouncil had been misconstrued. The developer is now asking deputy judge Milwyn Jarman QC to quash the decision.

The hearing is scheduled to last three days.
