Legal experts are warning that the government and the country’s banks could face action by savers with Help to Buy Isas.
A Treasury spokesman said it had always been intended that a 25% government bonus would be paid immediately prior to completion on a home rather than for use as part of the deposit.
However, various Isa providers have failed to mention the provision, which also did not appear in the official Isa rules. Onerous conditions need to be pointed out clearly to customers, Fairer Finance director James Daley noted.
