Julia Loftus, who claims that she experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after learning that her £300,000 home was badly affected by flooding, has launched a High Court damages claim against solicitor Mundys.
In a writ issued at Londons High Court, Ms Loftus claims that solicitor Alan Richards and the firm Mundys were negligent when acting for her over the purchase of her home at Dukeinsmoor Farm in Kinnersley, near Hereford, where she lives with her 14 cats, four horses and four dogs.
The writ says that, in 1998, she swapped her previous home in Malvern, together with £3,000, for Dukesinmoor Farm, but it claims that the solicitors failed to warn her that the farm was badly affected by flooding.
Ms Loftus alleges that the property is worth only £120,000 instead of the £295,000 paid for it. She also says that, as a result of what has happened she has suffered anxiety, nervousness, depression and suicidal feelings.
She says that if she had known of the risk of flooding, she would have made further inquiries and would not have gone ahead with the purchase.
Ms Loftus is seeking damages of more than £200,000.
