Hermes Property Asset Management and Nottingham Council are discussing plans for a £35m extension to the 40,876 sq m (440,000 sq ft) Broadmarsh shopping centre as a counterweight to the city’s Victoria Centre extension.
Adrian Jones, the council’s assistant development director, said the authority’s long standing plan was to re-site the existing bus station and multi-storey car park, to partly close Collin Street, and build the extension on the cleared site. The new wing will probably be 13,935 sq m – 18,580 sq m (150,000 sq ft – 200,000 sq ft).
The council owns the freehold of the centre, which opened in 1972, and has a 30% in the rental income. It is anchored by Allders, BhS and Boots. Joint letting agents are Colliers Erdman Lewis and Oliver Liggins.
The 15,93sq m (170,000sq ft) Victoria Centre extension is due for completion is fully let, and will include a House of Fraser department store.
