Hewlett-Packard, the American electronics giant, yesterday announced it is to spend £218m on the expansion of a plant in Leixlip, Kildare, Ireland. The plant, which serves the European market, will now be expanded to produce the electronic components needed to build cartridges. Hewlett-Packard intends to occupy the plant in the spring. The move will add more than 836 jobs to the operation, bringing the total employment created there to 2,000 within three years.
