Hewlett-Packard to occupy £20m research base at Stoke Gifford in Bristol

Computer giant Hewlett-Packard (H-P) is building a 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) research facility at its Stoke Gifford site in Bristol at a cost of £20m.

Work has started on site on a new European research base with a scheduled completion next year.

The company already occupies 23,225 sq m (250,000 sq ft) at Stoke Gifford. It acquired the land in two phases: in 1981 H-P bought 24.67ha (61 acre) for £20m; then in 1993, it bought an additional 40.87ha (101 acre) for an undisclosed sum.

A spokeswoman said there are no plans for further schemes and ruled out the possibility of outside developers having the opportunity to build on H-P’s land.
