Heyford Developments and UK Land and Development has submitted a planning application for a major new settlement on green belt land, to support much-needed housing growth in Redditch, West Midlands.
Plans include 2,800 new homes on a 336-acre site, which is currently in agricultural use. The site sits next to the existing suburb of Webheath, 1.5 miles from Redditch town centre.
Redditch and Bromsgrove Councils are supporting the removal of the land from the green belt to support cross-boundary growth and the delivery of this new development, in line with local authorities duty to co-operate requirements in the National Planning Policy Framework and long-term housing growth to 2030.
Through its Emerging Local Plan, Redditch Council has identified a housing need for around 6,400 dwellings by 2030, but can only demonstrate capacity for 3,000, leaving a significant shortfall.
The development comprises a mix of flats and one- to five-bedroom family houses, 40% of which will be affordable. The proposed scheme also includes a school, a mixed-use community facility, retail units and 130 acres of open space.
Subject to consent, work is scheduled to start on site in summer 2017, with completion of the full development due in 2030.
