HFC Bank is in talks with Brixton Estate to take 6,503 sq m (70,000 sq ft) of offices at 120 Edmund Street in Birmingham.
The bank is believed to be paying slightly less than the quoting rent of £194 per sq m (£18 per sq ft) for four floors at the refurbished building. The deal will mean the majority of the 12,820 sq m (138,000 sq ft) scheme will be let some four years after it was refurbished.
GE Capital subsidiary Accident Assistance, trading as First Call, took 1,672 sq m (18,000 sq ft) for a call centre last November.
HFC is currently based in Birmingham and has been looking for new premises for some time. It is thought to have looked at sites in the city including the Lloyds TSB building at No 1 Victoria Square, but was widely believed to have opted to stay put for the time being.A spokesman for the bank said it had no comment to make at this stage.
The letting is good news for the city centre, which over the last few years has had to compete directly with Argent’s Brindleyplace to attract tenants. DTZ Debenham Thorpe and Hillier Parker are joint letting agents on the scheme. DTZ Director Geoff Thomas would not confirm that the bank was taking space, saying only that “it’s very early days.”
