High Court challenge to Littlehampton Harbour scheme

Three fishermen who claim their livelihoods will be destroyed by plans for a massive redevelopment of land at Littlehampton Harbour in West Sussex are fighting at Londons High Court in a bid to bring a halt to the scheme.

Clive Mills, Crispin Sayers and Michael Inman are seeking judicial review of the decision by the Littlehampton Harbour Board to sell land at Town Quay to David Wilson Homes for residential development.

They are also seeking judicial review of Arun councils decision to grant planning permission for the scheme. The three men are seeking an order restraining the Board from proceeding with the transaction.

When the case reached the High Court in April, leading judge Mr Justice Sullivan adjourned it so that a longer hearing could be scheduled. Now the men have returned to court for a hearing, expected to last two days.

If their move fails, the site – which comprises Norfolk Wharf, Old Quay Wharf, County Wharf and Dukes Wharf- will be redeveloped as housing with garages and parking, a visitor centre, a new Harbour Office, a pub and restaurant.
