High prices force first-time London buyers out

Some 15,000 Londoners buying their first home did so outside of the city this year, a rise of 70% from the prior year, according to data from Hamptons International. The figure equates to 30% of the capital’s first-time buyers.

First-time buyers leaving the capital are on average spending £192,000, much less than the £248,000 spent by those buying in London.

Overall, Londoners bought 58,000 homes outside the capital this year, a rise of 50% on the year and the highest since 2007.
