High rents put capital out of bounds for key workers

Nurses, teachers and social workers are being priced out of London and the South East because rents have soared in recent years, according to a report.

Key public workers living in certain parts of the country devote more than 30 per cent of their monthly salary to rental payments, according to research by PWC, the accountants. The 30 per cent mark is widely considered to be the upper threshold for affordable renting.
