High street wilts in heat, British Retail Consortium survey shows

More shops are vacant than at any time in the past four years, according to a survey of town centre activity.
The high street vacancy rate rose from 10.2 per cent to 10.3 per cent in July, according to the British Retail Consortium’s regular survey.
Consumers stayed away from shops because of hot weather and the continuing shift to shopping online.
