Hillier Parkers retail team has beaten three other agents to pick up an instruction to advise South African developer Old Mutual Properties.
Old Mutual is developing two huge retail and leisure malls in South Africa and has a development programme running to 700,000 sq m (7.53m sq ft). Jenefer Greenwood, head of retail at Hillier Parker, said: “They want shopping centres that are different from others. They want to break into the international market”
She said Hillier Parker would put together a research document and launch its marketing campaign to international retailers in September. “You have to sell the country, in the way that we did with the Portuguese market,” she said.
Hillier Parker met Old Mutual through an introduction from Les Weil, head of HPs South African associate company, JHI. Greenwood met Ian Watt, Old Mutuals assistant general manager, at Mapic last year.
