Hilton on track to open UK’s first Motto hotel in Liverpool

Liverpool City Council planning committee has been recommended to approve the redevelopment of the Cavern Walks building, which sits on a half-an-acre site in the city’s Cavern Quarter.

The existing 143,000 sq ft building is occupied by retailers on the ground floor, with vacant offices on the upper floors. It also has a basement car park. It was bought by Greenwood Developments in 2022 for £7m.

The proposals, designed by FCH Architects and lodged earlier this year, would see the first to seventh floors of the building converted to provide 283 hotel suites.

The scheme also features a reception area, food, beverage and entertainment space on the upper ground floor.

If approved, the building will be operated by Motto, a lifestyle hotel brand from Hilton Hotels & Resorts. The concept features a flexible approach to accommodation, with connecting guest rooms, communal spaces and coffee/bar areas. Other Motto hotels are located in Rotterdam, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington and Tulum. This would be the brand’s first opening in the UK.
