A former HMRC office complex on the edge of the Saltaire World Heritage Site in Shipley, West Yorkshire, will be demolished to make way for 289 homes and more than 5,000 sq ft of commercial office space designed for flexible working.
The scheme, put forward by urban regeneration specialist Artisan Real Estate, was given the go-ahead by Bradford Council yesterday (27 September).
The 11-acre site, sandwiched between the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, is home to a seven-storey former HMRC building that closed in October 2021.
Artisan’s plans for the new Saltaire Riverside development also include a café facing on to a new pocket park and piazza. A riverside park will link the development to the River Aire, providing woodland, grassland and lawns to act as a natural flood water storage area. Pedestrian links will provide direct access to Saltaire railway station and the canal towpath.
Construction is expected to start in early 2024.
