The Home Office has confirmed that Connaught Barracks, near Dover, in Kent, could become home to Category D prisoners as early as next month.
Residents at the nearby Burboyne Heights housing estate and local MP Gwyn Prosser have responded angrily to the plans to convert the disused army barracks.
The residents planned to hold a protest meeting last night and intended to demonstrate on the streets of the town today. Dover’s council is expected to launch legal action against the government.
