Home improvements boost builders’ merchants

Home improvements are behind improved results at paving and concrete maker Marshalls and builders’ merchant Grafton.

Marshalls recorded a 31% rise in pretax profit, with particularly strong sales to UK households. Chief executive Martyn Coffey attributed that to home owners making improvements using funds accessed via pension equity release.

Grafton reported a 14% higher adjusted profit before tax. Its Selco brand benefited from residential demand for repair and maintenance services.
