Home ownership halves among 25-29 year olds

The number of people in the 25-29 age category who own their own home has dropped to 31% from 63% some 25 years ago, according to analysis by the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University for the Social Mobility Commission.

Financial gifts or loans from family helped a record-high 34% of first-time buyers to buy their home, up from 20% seven years ago.

In addition, 10% relied on an inheritance to help buy a house.
