Home sales slide as political tensions deter buyers

The housing market slowed considerably last month as political uncertainty led buyers and sellers to put moving house on hold.
There were 86,630 housing transactions in July, 8.5 per cent lower than the previous month and 12.4 per cent down on the same month last year, according to HM Revenue & Customs.
The volume of monthly transactions in July was lower than at any time in six years, except April 2016, when stamp duty changes were introduced.
