Solicitors are misleading homebuyers over the legal costs of moving, forcing them to pick up hidden bills just before sales are completed, the industry watchdog has warned.
More than one third of residential conveyancing law firms have been found to charge fees beyond initial quotes, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) said.
The report comes after The Times revealed on Saturday that some estate agents were overvaluing properties by up to a fifth in a practice that could mislead sellers into paying higher rates of commission.
