Homeowners could be compensated for new developments

Homeowners in rural towns and villages could be paid compensation for the disruption caused by new developments in their local area.

Officials in the Communities Department are considering whether part of the funds raised through the Community Infrastructure Levy could go straight to homeowners. The levy is charged on developments with a floor space of more than 100 m².

The government at the weekend announced a similar change in the way communities affected by fracking would be compensated.
