Homes England’s director of strategy and engagement Louise Wyman is to join Manchester City Council as strategic director for growth and development.
She will start on 22 June, replacing Eddie Smith, who is retiring after 20 years at the council.
Wyman has been at Homes England since 2017 and helped set up the agency as a member of the senior leadership team.
She has also spent the past year as director of design and development for the West Midlands Combined Authority.
At Manchester City Council she will oversee the local planning authority, housing strategy, work and skills.
Manchester City Council leader Richard Leese said: “It goes without saying that this is one of the most demanding roles in local government, in one of the fastest-growing and exciting cities in Europe.”
Wyman added: “In the moment of a global health crisis, civic leadership matters more than ever. The health and wellbeing of Manchester’s communities will be at the heart of our development plans.”
