Homes England inks £1bn South Village Leeds MoU

Caddick Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Homes England to speed up delivery of its £1bn GDV South Village scheme in Leeds.

The 1,925-home scheme will also offer up to 450 hotel bedrooms, a travel hub and 753,474 sq ft of commercial space. It received unanimous approval from Leeds City Council’s city plans panel in March.

The deal allows works on site to begin before the end of the year. As such, the first developments within the scheme will emerge as soon as 2025.

Lee Savage, director at Caddick, said: “This agreement with Homes England will be instrumental in accelerating our work on this project, allowing us to begin delivering city centre housing at pace, while also introducing public realm for all to enjoy.

“The ambition is that South Village will effectively redefine contemporary urban living in Leeds, located in the heart of the city centre, but offering all of the amenity of traditional village life.”

Peter Denton, chief executive at Homes England, said: “West Yorkshire and Leeds have a clear vision for the city’s future, and we’re working with Caddick and other local partners to bring that one step closer to reality.”

South Village is the new name for the City One development area, a 10-acre site on Leeds’ South Bank, created by SimpsonHaugh Architects.
