Homes England is to invest a further £63m for the Northern Arc development at Burgess Hill in West Sussex.
The finance comes from the government’s Land Assembly Fund and will enable roads, a bridge and landscaping on the eastern and western parts of the site.
It will bring forward the development of 1,250 new homes at the centre of the site, with a further 2,250 scheduled to start after 2023.
Homes England has also announced that Countryside will be the first developer on the site and will build 460 homes at Freeks Farm. The homes will be a mix of flats and one to four-bedroom houses and 30% will be affordable (20% social rent and 10% intermediate rent).
Freeks Farm received a resolution to grant outline planning in October 2018. Countryside will begin the first phase in March 2020, using modern methods of construction, with completions expected from December 2020.
Stephen Kinsella, executive director of land at Homes England, said: “This funding boost, alongside the appointment of the first developer, represents further great progress for the Northern Arc. We can now make move quickly towards starting on site and constructing quality new homes and facilities for the local community.”
Housing minister Kit Malthouse said: “Burgess Hill is a shining example of how our £1.3bn Land Assembly Fund is rising to meet the challenge of delivering more, better, faster home construction – helping to deliver up to 3,500 extra homes for the people of Sussex.”
