Homes England plots 700-home Birmingham development

Homes England is working up plans for a 690-home development in the regeneration area around the proposed High Speed 2 station in Birmingham.

The agency is planning to develop a five-acre site at New Bond Street, to the south of Adderley Street, in the Bordesley area of the city.

The scheme is expected to provide five residential buildings of up to 15 storeys, with 35% affordable housing, new public and private amenity space, and more than 20,000 sq ft of commercial space fronting Grand Union Canal.

It has submitted a request for an Environmental Impact Assessment to the council, ahead of an outline planning application. Avison Young is advising on the plans.

The Curzon Masterplan surrounding the proposed High Speed 2 station area is expected to provide 6.5m sq ft of commercial space and 4,000 homes, with some £1.7bn in private sector investment.

Homes England owns a number of sites in the area and has been collaborating with neighbouring land owners the Gooch Estate and Oval Real Estate to prepare a vision for the area for the next 10 to 15 years.

At the end of the last financial year, the agency announced it had acquired its fourth and final site in the area, with six acres at Montague Street in Digbeth from Birmingham City Council to develop a further 1,000 new homes and up to 270,000 sq ft of employment space.
