Nicholas van Hoogstraten is reported to be grooming son Rhett, 20, to take over his property empire.
The tycoon claims his empire is worth £800m.
BBC2 will screen a documentary with Hoogstraten next Thursday, his first interview since he was jailed for 10 years in 2002 for the manslaughter of business rival Mohammed Raja.
The Court of Appeal later quashed the conviction.
