A deal started to take shape last night which could be key to saving Rover’s plant in Longbridge, Birmingham.
It would involve more than £1bn being pumped into the plant in return for up to £200m government funds. Close contact is being maintained between Rover’s parent company, BMW, and the DTI.
The Guardian takes a more negative angle and leads on the fact that BMW threatened to take production of a planned new small car away from the plant unless government subsidies were forthcoming.
