Hospital site in central Dorchester put up for redevelopment

The freehold of Dorset County Hospital, which occupies a 2.87ha (7.1 acre) site in the centre of Dorchester, is on the market through King Sturge.

West Dorset District Council’s planning brief envisages a mix of uses including offices, housing, flats, industrial and retail, says King Sturge surveyor Andrew Lee.

The original hospital building dates from 1841, and the site also includes a former rectory and a large early Victorian house. The existing complex’s floor area totals14,600 sq m (157,000 sq ft).

Preference will be given to substantial offers in respect of the entire site, although KingSturge does not rule out the possibility of breaking up the site. Best bids are due by 16 July.
