Hospitality giant Rhubarb has secured deals for its first two international sites and will operate two restaurants in the US in the Hudson Yards development on Manhattan’s West Side.
The company, which is famous for its London landmark restaurant the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street, EC3, has agreed a deal for a 5,800 sq ft site in the shops and restaurant space at Oxford Properties and Related Companies Hudson Yards development, which will sit on the fifth level.
It will also operate a 10,000 sq ft bar, restaurant and events space on the top two floors of 30 Hudson Yards, the neighbourhood’s tallest tower at 1,296sq ft.
Due to open in 2019, the restaurants will join a line-up of several other restaurants, including D&D London’s second US site, curated by chef Thomas Keller and Related Urban president, chief executive and restaurateur Kenneth A Himmel.
Rhubarb chief executive PB Jacobse said: “We have been looking to open in New York for several years now and the Hudson Yards development is incomparable – its commitment to a fully collaborative approach with all of its partners, from retail to food and beverage, means this will be the ultimate, united experience.
“Once completed, Hudson Yards will be regarded as the most iconic development of today’s generation, re-defining the culinary scene in New York and we simply had to be a part of it.”
Himmel said: “PB and Rhubarb have created some of the most memorable, innovative and creative culinary events in the UK, from the royal boxes and the Jockey Club at Royal Ascot Racecourse to the Saatchi Gallery, Royal Albert Hall and Sky Garden at the Walkie Talkie building.”
Rhubarb’s portfolio of locations was established in 2009 and today comprises nine sites, including the catering at Goodwood, the Natural History Museum and Royal Albert Hall.
Its next London restaurant, VIVI, is opening at Almacantar’s Centre Point development, WC1, in April 2018.
