Hotel chain Hotel du Vin has bought a converted warehouse in Canterbury, Kent, for redevelopment as a 40-bed hotel.

Hotel du Vin paid an undisclosed sum to housebuilder Bellway for the warehouse at the Tannery development. The Tannery also includes 440 houses, four shops and a bar/restaurant.

The hotel will open in 2010.

Bruce McKendrick, managing director, Hotel du Vin, said: “We are delighted to be bringing Hotel du Vin to Canterbury, where the brand will deliver a new style of hotel with superb rooms, fabulous wine cellars and a great value bistro and bar, In addition to offering luxurious bedrooms, it will be a great place for locals to meet, eat and drink.”

Hotel du Vin bought the 22-bedroom St Andrews Golf Hotel in Scotland in January, and further openings are planned this year in Edinburgh, Newcastle and Poole.
