ITT Sheraton and Hilton International are thought to be among a handful of operators eyeing Birmingham Council’s offices on Broad Street with a view to converting the building into a five star hotel.
Jones Lang Wootton will be appointed to advise on marketing Baskerville House if plans to sell the 7,803 sq m (84,000 sq ft) property get the go-ahead at a council meeting next week. Local agents estimate that the neo-classical building is worth around £3m.
Tony Liddiard, head of the council’s management and commercial disposals team, confirmed that he was seeking authority to put Baskerville House on the market. He added: “We have received 30 or 40 enquiries from people wanting to buy the building. It’s right next door to the International Convention Centre so its location is perfect for a hotel.”
If the disposal goes ahead, Birmingham Council will search for new premises as part of an overall property strategy. Liddiard said: “The move would give us the opportunity to look at what we occupy.
