House price rise shows no signs of slowing

There is still no sign of a slowdown in the housing market, as prices rose by 1% in November.

The latest figures from Halifax show annualised growth at 8.2%, the same pace as October. The 3.4% quarterly rise is the highest since the end of 2006.

Wales remains by far the strongest-performing nation or region in the UK, with annual house price inflation of 14.8%. London continues to lag the rest of the UK, with the cost of a home up only 1.1% year-on-year.

But the race for space could be over. Flat prices rose faster than house prices in November, increasing by an average of 10.8%, whereas houses lifted 6.6% on the previous year.
