The average price of a home rose by 0.6% on the month in August, reaching £206,145, figures from Nationwide show.
That represents a slight acceleration from 0.5% growth in the previous month. On the year, prices rose by 5.6% compared with 5.2% in July.
A fall in demand was matched by supply side weakness, Nationwide’s chief economist, Robert Gardner, said.
