House prices up 6.2%, but previous growth revised down

House prices rose by a below-expectations 6.2% on the year in January, taking the average price of a home to £218,000, figures from the Office for National Statistics showed.

Figures for the previous two months were revised down sharply, to show growth of 5.3% in November compared with the original 6.1% rise, and growth of 5.7% in December compared with the original 7.2%.

Economists are expecting house price growth to slow this year.
