Housebuilder growth fails to offset fall in commercial projects

The construction sector suffered its worst month in more than a year as Brexit uncertainty continued to weigh on investment.

The IHS Markit/CIPS purchasing managers’ index fell to 48.6 last month, down from 50.5 in April and the lowest reading since March last year, when the country was in the grip of the Beast from the East cold weather system. Economists had expected the index to remain in positive territory at 50.5.
